About - meet the people behind the curtain

Who makes The North Lit Review happen? We’re all writers who love to read, and we all believe in the power of writing to tell a meaningful story. Anybody can write, but it’s those who write well that make the reading worthwhile. Our job is to find them.

Fran Mulhern - Editor

Fran is the North Lit Editor. He has a Creative Writing MA from Lancaster University, and a law degree from the University of East Anglia. Originally from Ireland, he’s big on modern Irish fiction and essays - he’s a big believer in Joan Didion’s quote that essays are ‘thinking on the page’. His work has appeared in The London Magazine, Litro, The Honest Ulsterman and others.

In his spare time, when not writing, reading or doing his day job, Fran enjoys spending time with his wife and dogs and is partial to good TV shows. Billions and Succession are among his favourites - Dark Matter thrown in for good measure.
